Carter officially turned one at 11:35am on October 1st, and had his 1-year check-up two days later. Other than his iron levels being a little low and his head circ. jumping from the 50th-75th % to now the 90th %, he is doing great! Our big boy's 12-month stats:
- Weight = 24 lbs. 3.5 oz. (75th percentile)
- Height = 30 3/4" (75th percentile)
- Head = 48cm (90th percentile)
Over the past several months, Carter has kept all of us wondering - mind you, not worrying - about when he would finally begin crawling. He was just taking his sweet time lifting that heavy little body off the ground. Well, it finally happened one day after work/school on September 26th. And we got it on film! He is such a happy baby now that he can get from point A to point B by himself. And he is so curious and into absolutely everything, just as he should be, making up for lost time! Kinsley was taking steps by this point, but Carter has reminded me that all babies are different and he is going to do things in his time, when he is good and ready. Carter is just about as sweet as they come...I say that he came out of me just the sweetest baby. So happy, so healthy, so easy. And just so sweet. I think he learned that from Kinsley. She is truly such a kind, thoughful, sweetheart of a little girl, and she loves her baby brother.
Here are some things Carter loves and is doing now at the one year mark:
- crawling - and nearly pulling up to stand
- swinging on the swingset or at the park
- doing anything with his big sister - he absolutely adores her and she makes him erupt with belly-deep laughter all the time
- watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
- going for walks
- being outside
- reaching out to point when he wants to touch something
- giving high-fives
- riding in his red car
- playing with toys - of any kind - all the time
- eating, with his now 8 little teeth - some favorites include buttered toast, puffs, cheerios, watermelon, peas, carrots, turkey, chicken, bananas, and any flavor of squeezable baby food pack
- brushing his teeth (he thinks it is hilarious)
- his bottle = he has been 100% weened at this point (actually just a few days shy of his first birthday, we cut out the one remaining nursing per day and he is now doing great on bottles - still downing four 8-oz bottles a day...and just like Kins, he loves his "bah-bah."
- bathtime with his big sis
- the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
- snuggling on mommy's shoulder as we rock before bedtime
- his mobile in his crib
- being loud and jibber-jabbering constantly - our home is always buzzing with the sounds of children
- saying ma-ma-ma-ma-ma or da-da-da-da-da
- watching Hunter
- waving bye-bye
- playing peek-a-boo
- putting anything in his mouth
And of course we celebrated (as we always do for birthdays around this house) with a big party in honor of our birthday boy! Close family and friends came over on Saturday, Oct. 5th as we hosted a football-themed party with a special guest appearance by a face-painting clown and a certain red fuzzy friend (which Kinsley loved)!
Happy birthday sweet Carter! Thank you for completing our family and for enlarging our hearts with more love and happiness than I ever thought possible.
