A Snowy Start to 2011

Soooo, "Happy 2011!"

Okay, so it's a bit of a delayed happy 2011, but things have been busy since my last Christmas post! So many things going on in this first two short weeks into the New Year! Where to begin...

Well, first and foremost, Kinsley is now in the double digits. In months, that is. Ten months, to be exact. My oh my, how time flies...it's a crazy realization that we are now less than two months away from her first birthday. Let the planning commence! Well, I've got the invites picked out, the theme chosen, and the date set for Sat. March 12...just one day after she turns 1! But, I don't want to get ahead of myself...here is the latest on what has been a BIG month for little Miss Kins. Here's her "TEN-MONTH UPDATE!" (bare with me, folks...this blog also doubles as Kinsley's baby book)...

At her 9 1/2 month check-up just before Christmas, we got her stats:
  • Weight = 19 lbs 5 oz (50-75th percentile)...that was as of 12/23/10...she was almost 4x her birth weight!
  • Height = 27 1/2" (50th percentile)...she had grown exactly 10" since she was born!
  • Head = 46cm around...in the 90th percentile...once again, thank you daddy!
Other new things this past month:

Two, count 'em, TWO new teeth. They came in back-to-back in mid-December. Two little teeth on the bottom. I must say, I love, love, love her toothy smile now!

Talking...all the time! She is quite the talker! Especially her favorite word: dadadadadadadadada. No mama yet. But oh how I love her smile when she sees her daddy.

Food: while we are still on about 4-5 bottles a day and I am still brewing up homemade baby food, Kinsley has recently stepped in the world of real, solid, table foods! And there is no going back! Not only does she LOVE to feed herself (both food and her bottle...drinking it one handed while chillin' in her Nap Nanny watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)......but she also loves yogurt, Boars Head turkey and white American cheese, fruit, and of course, she still loves those Puffs. Here's her tasting - and then devouring - the turkey and cheese for the first time.
Another favorite? Avocado smashed up and eaten right out the shell. That's her favorite right now.
We also finally got the hang of the sippy cup. The day after Christmas I offered it to her just like all the other days, and she took it. Just like that. Like, Merry Christmas Mom, this one's for you. Smiles all around! And after all the various brands that I bought and tried and failed with, she loves the first pink & green Playtex sippy cup I ever brought home. Which taught me lesson...as with her first taste of avocado, which she hated, and now LOVES...if at first we don't succeed with something, try, try again.

Crawling: She is getting so, SO close...and closer everyday! She gets up on her hands and knees. Just hasn't quite mastered one hand in front of the other. She knows exactly what she wants to do though, and that tends to lead to a high pitched, oh-so-frustrated, hey-I-think-I've-discovered-my-upper-voice-rang, squeal. Or scream. I have a feeling that I will be posting a video of her crawling any day now. BUT, do not think that she is stationary. Ohhhhh no, not by a long shot. She still rolls or "army-crawls" to get to where she wants to go. And she has help...her friend Leighton came over a few weeks ago to help Kins see how easy it was! They played together for a couple of hours...sharing, giggling, babbling to each other. It was so cute!

Toys: even with the plethora of colorful, noisy, musical play things that Santa and family gave her for Christmas, her favorites are still my Blackberry and the remote control for the TV in the den. You know, the things that mommy and daddy use. Go figure. But, on a daily basis, we do create what I like to call "the circle of fun" in the family room...literally a circle of toys to kind of "contain" Kins in one area. I have a feeling my plan won't be working for too much longer as she becomes more mobile...see her trying to crawl in this photo? Here we go...

The other big thing going on 'round here...5 days of never ending SNOW and ICE. We got a half a foot at our house on Sunday night, and here it is Thursday evening and the stuff hasn't budged! It was beautiful and so much fun on Monday, but everything iced on Tuesday and from then on out it has been nothing short of freezing and rather dangerous outside. But the positive side? We never lost power, had plenty of the essentials, we got to play outside on Monday, including Kinsley's first time in the snow, Philip got every single dollars worth out of his 4-wheeler that we got a few months back, and I got to spend the last 4 days working from home and playing with my baby girl all week. It has been a treat for sure! No cabin fever for us. We had fun playing indoors where it was nice and warm. Here are some photos from the past couple of days!

I love this photo...Kins wanted to go out there so badly and see what this white stuff was all about. After all, this was a LOT more than the "dusting" that she saw on Christmas.

Mom, why is my tush so cold?

A walk in the neighborhood in the snow, just before the ice came in.

Our first family photo in the snow...minus Hunter.
You'll see why in the next photo...

Philip was like a kid on Christmas morning...he thinks that he may have gone riding over 60 miles in 2 days. This was our (his) only mode of transportation up to the grocery store and gas station. He also pulled two people when their cars got stuck and dragged a tree out of the road. Too much fun!

Daddy and his baby girl - that cute snow suit that he bought at REI a few weeks back definitely came in handy!

Me and my girl.

Me and my girl again...what a difference a year makes from the big snow storm last year, huh?

Hunter, checking things out.

Yep, there was a lot of snow...

...6" to be exact.

A look at I-85 on Tuesday...or as I like to refer to it: "the reason we didn't leave the house for a couple of days."

A view from the front door...where does the sidewalk end and the stairs / front yard / street begin???

Our trusty ol' bulldog is always a good gauge of the snow. In fact, here here's the same bulldog from last year's snow...significantly more this year, huh?

Gotta have the tradtional "this-is-what-our-house-looks-like-in-the-snow" photo. Funny, looks a lot like it did last year in the snow...
